THE BEAUTY OF ART
DREAMERS by ALBERT MOORE
I sit at their feet and admire their grace
Trying to read what is in each face
A lover …. a friend …… unfulfilled desire
Sensual features …. set me on fire

BOER WAR by JOHN BYAM LISTON SHAW
The sadness deep inside of you
The memories ….. like birds that flew
Those moments lost in mists of time
When all of life seemed so sublime
A life extinguished …. now forlorn
War’s raging tempest caused the storm
That leaves you in the wilderness
Distraught within your emptiness
May time heal wounds that are so deep
Again one day … feel blissful sleep
When birds again fly on the wing
Your heart once more to feel … and sing

HEAD OF A NEGRO by THEODORE GERICAULT
The light of slavery still in their eyes
The hate of subservience realised
The fear of rejection glistening there
The fierce pride of heritage in that stare

THE STORMY SEA by GUSTAVE COURBET
Billowing power across the sky
The light of angels fleeing by
To pierce the dark Satanic clouds
And open up the Heavenly shrouds
Sweet sunlight flood the open sea
And light a way to tranquility
When the storm … at last … has rumbled by
The world returns with a blameless sigh

THE WANDERER IN THE SEA OF FOG by CASPAR DAVID FRIEDRICH
The mists of my life flow before my eyes
The rock of time beneath my feet
In the distance … the clarity of Heaven’s sky
The end of my journey will soon be complete

THE SCREAM by EDVARD MUNCH
Emotion running blood red raw
Life finally will close the door
Oblivion screaming through my head
Peace will come when I am dead

ON A CLEAR DAY by DUFFY SHERIDAN
Clear summer day, visions of time
Beautiful lady, eyes so divine
Wistfully dreaming, lands far away
Should I be there… or should I just stay?

CLAUDE MONET
Shades of life and shades of light
Gentle majesty ...... colours bright
Whispering images to our minds
Subtle touches ..... so refined
Softness in the evening glow
Lustrous in the brush's flow
Shimmering visions ... sweet, divine
Relaxing eyes .... feels sublime

THE POET
The poet bares his soul to the world
Opening himself to minute examination
His thoughts to be sifted and sorted
Interpretation put on every word
But have no fear from these deliberations
Just pleasure … from whatever pleasure is gleaned
For the written word is his chariot …
To carry his thoughts across the minds of men
